Meet the Manufacturers, episode 1: General Metal Engraving

Let me turn it on and give you a quick demonstration of what a vacuum rotary die does. All right, there it is. This is the cut result. All those pieces are removed from the web. We have holes and we also have a perforation line here.

NH: This is a demonstration tool to show the capabilities?

GK: Correct, this is a show piece that we take to the trade shows. And the pieces are removable. So, for example, instead of sheeting it every revolution, you want to let it keep running and roll it up. Then you would remove this sheeter blade, unscrew it and take it off, and then you would run it roll to roll. That’s the vacuum die.

There are other inserts that you can insert on any type of tooling, not just vacuum tooling. This, for example, is a regular crush cut blade. It is not sucking anything up on this one. This one is an embossing shape. In general, these inserts can be used when flexibility is required, when you need to change the shapes of a particular area.

Let me show you our demonstration set here. These are samples of some things that are cut using a rotary die. This right here is, you can probably imagine, working with some other tooling, this cuts hospital ID wrist bands, or for water parks, things of that nature. You can imagine the clamp, and slitting it this way. So there you’ve got a vacuum die application right here. People around the world know us for that kind of work.
