NH: These industrial printing presses, from the little that I know, they basically have big rollers that process large rolls of film or paper, a thousand feet or longer, that go around the different rollers. And then there are the printing tools, also on cylinders, the printing plates. And then it will have your rotary die near the tail end, which will do the cutting or stamping. All this is on one long printing press.
GK: Correct. Our rotary die would go into the last station typically. It would first print the material. Sometimes they don’t even print the material, they just die cut it. We would manufacture the cylinder that goes into that printing press to cut out the shapes.
NH: Great, why don’t we go take a look at some samples?
GK: Absolutely.
This right here is what we manufacture. It’s a rotary die. No, we don’t make the machine. We make the rotary cylinder that cuts against this solid anvil roller. Rotary dies are used for cutting out paper, foil, or film at high volume and speed.
This particular rotary die is a very special one. This is a concept that we innovated here at General Metal Engraving. It’s used to extract pieces from the web. It removes the little cut pieces through the side via a vacuum.
